For many of us true crime aficionadas, FORENSIC FILES is where we cut our teeth.

The show was a gold standard in the true crime genre.  It’s format was steady, intelligent, and always with an empathetic view of the victim, their family and the community who was touched by the tragedy.

Each episode was a peek into the forensic details of a crime scene investigation. Back in the day, phrases like gas chromatography mass spectrometry weren’t part of the forensics lexicon like they are today (for the uninitiated, it let’s you know the chemical composition of things like paint chips or fibres or other teeny microscopic things left behind).

The show ran for 14 seasons and, with over 406 episodes, was a staple rerun on tv. It educated an entire generation about the magic that happens when science and law enforcement combine.

So what happened to the show? Well, like many long running tv staples it just came to a close.
